It is with profound sorrow that the Embassy of Ireland in China announces the passing of our cherished friend, Professor Jerusha Hull McCormack. Professor McCormack was an internationally renowned scholar of comparative literature and a leading expert in Irish Studies, who passed away in Dublin on 5 September 2025 at the age of 82.
作为爱尔兰与中国文化交流的先行者与奠基人，麦科马克教授与中国有着深厚的渊源。她曾在中国工作和任教长达十余年，并在此期间推动了北京外国语大学爱尔兰研究中心的建立。她将毕生的学识与热忱投入到搭建两国人民相互理解的桥梁之上，为跨文化研究作出了不可磨灭的卓越贡献。她于2019年为纪念爱中建交四十周年而出版的著作《爱尔兰与中国：相遇与交流》，是两国深厚友谊的生动见证。
As a pioneer and founding figure in cultural exchange between Ireland and China, Professor McCormack forged a deep and enduring connection with this country. She spent over a decade working and teaching in China, during which time she played a pivotal role in establishing the Irish Studies Centre at Beijing Foreign Studies University. Throughout her distinguished career, she devoted her knowledge and passion to building bridges of mutual understanding between the peoples of our two nations, making an indelible contribution to cross-cultural research. Her 2019 publication The Irish and China: Encounters and Exchanges , commemorating the 40th anniversary of diplomatic relations between the two countries, stands as a vivid testament to this enduring friendship.
